City of Johannesburg Internship Opportunities

Salary Range: R8 329.27 pm (cost to company, basic salary, no benefits) Completed qualification, with at least 360 credits, OR Salary Range: R3 500.00 pm (cost to company, basic salary, no benefits) must be enrolled as student.

An internship programme is an intervention by the City of Johannesburg to address the growing demand by tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of an academic qualification to obtain experiential training. The City is committed to provide work-based training for students.

Appointment Requirements:

  • Confirmation letter from institution;
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ages between 18 – 35 years; and
  • Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.

Schedule Service Management Agency: Infrastructure

Primary Function: Receiving and recording of invoice rom different service providers. Distribution of invoices too Project Manager’s. ensure invoices are processed and paid within 30 days of receipt in line with Municipal Finance Management Act. Liaise with service providers as a monthly basis to ensure invoices are submitted. Budget analysis to ensure project are implemented within the available budget. Record keeping for case of refence incase of disputes or queries.

Key Performance Areas: Interact with Transport Finance, Project Managers and Implementing Agents. Assist in the administration work for record keeping. Submit administrative documents for reporting and tracking of expenditure.

Leading Competencies: Problem analysis and solving.

Core Competencies: Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel). Excellent Communication skills including presentation skills. Organising skills and attention to detail. Coordinating skills. Good report writing skills. Time management and being able to work under pressure.

Building Development Management

Primary Function: Public Counter Management; Document and Correspondence Management; Electronic File Tracking System; Record Document and Information Management; Stakeholder Engagement.

Key Performance Areas: Provide an effective and efficient support in terms of public counter management. Ensuring an effective and efficient correspondence management. Execute sequences/actions associated with the generating of barcode labels with regards to the Electronic File Tracking System database. Ensuring functional and secure record, document, and information management. Interacting with relevant stakeholders regarding contraventions.

Leading Competencies: Report writing, Administrative management, Financial reporting.

Core Competencies: Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel). Excellent Communication skills including presentation skills. Organising skills and attention to detail. Coordinating skills. Good report writing skills. Time management and being able to work under pressure.
